An Auction of Repossessed cars is a great source of decent used and new cars at very nice prices compared with the vehicles listed values. If you're interested to get a great bargain but actually are not sure of how such auctions works, read the tips below.

So, what is a repossessed vehicle actually?

We normally distinguish between two main types of repossessed vehicles;

- vehicles repossessed by the government

- vehicles repossessed by banks and financial institutions

Government vehicles

- seized vehicles

- surplus vehicles

- unclaimed vehicles.

The purpose of government car auctions is to get rid of the vehicles and recover administrative expenses. Bank cars are vehicles that banks and financial companies use as collateral for loans and when a loan taker can't pay, they take the vehicle and auction it.

Which Vehicles Can You Expect to Find At These Auctions?

The answer is; all kinds of vehicles in all price ranges from pick-ups and SUVs, sports cars and convertibles as well as luxury cars.

Of course the condition of these vehicles may vary a bit; some have a few scratches others are severely damaged but the majority of them are in perfect working condition. You can even find cars that are practically new at prices less than half of retail prices.

How Are The Prices Determined?

Every auction starts at very low prices and are bid upwards by those who are interested. Hot car models will increase the price and if there are many bidders it can skyrocket to prices that are completely insane. However, experience shows that the average price of these vehicles is about 80 percent off the showroom prices.

Rules of Auctions

There are rules and requirements regarding auctions of repossessed cars that the bidders have to adhere to;

- at most auctions you have to be 18 years or more to bid

- you must also have a driving license.

- to be able to bid some auctions will charge a fee

Take the Kelly Blue Book or another list of automobile values with you. It will be very easy for you to spot a good deal. Take a mechanic with you to inspect a vehicle you want to bid on upfront, if you don't have sufficient knowledge yourself.

Where Do You Find these Auctions?

Car Auctions take place every day all over USA. Find auctions located near your home. Call banks, local government agencies or auction houses and get their auction schedules. Also check ads in your local newspaper.

The simplest way to find auto auctions is to go to the auction directories online. For a minor one-time fee you get unlimited access to their databases with updated information about auctions of repossessed cars. Be aware though, that there are some sites out there trying to cheat people. Steer away from them.
